Interview with Ben Franklin

An interview With Ben Franklin

What would the Founding Fathers say about America today? Let’s ask one.

Stu Pitt: “Welcome to my dreams, Mr. Ben Franklin. May I call you Ben?”

Ben: “Sure, why not, that’s my name. What’s your name?”

Stu: “Stu Pitt”.

Ben: “Okay, Stu, now that you channeled me, what do you want?”

Stu: “I wanted to find out how the Founding Fathers would feel about today’s America.”

Ben: “Today’s America? Isn’t this still 1789?”

Stu: “Fraid not. It’s been over 200 years since you guys founded the country.”

Ben: “Really? Wow! Things must have changed a bit, huh?”

Stu: “A bit. Let me tell what’s going on with government and society and you can give me your reaction.”

Ben: “Okay.”

Stu: “The government still has the three branches you guys set up but the legislative branch does nothing, the judicial branch makes new laws by reinterpreting the old laws instead of having Congress make new laws, and the Executive branch has usurped the power from the other two branches of government and, in effect, makes its own laws and/or reinterprets the law and changes it as it sees fit.”

Ben: “What? That’s not the way we invented America, that's not how we wrote the founding document, the United States Constitution.”

Stu: “Yeah, well, the liberal Democrats act like the Constitution is just a guideline and the Republicans can’t seem to do anything to stop them.”

Ben: “So who is running America?”

Stu: “A bunch of politicians, corrupted by special interests and donors.”

Ben: “Shame on them. What about we, the people? Aren’t politicians looking out for the interests of the majority of the citizens? Isn’t the government addressing and solving the major issues facing the country? That’s why politicians are elected, to serve the people. That’s why we invented America and put it all in writing. Aren't the elected officials serving the people? Isn’t Washington fixing the critical things in America that need fixing?”

Stu: “Not exactly. The major critical issues facing America today seem to be racism, transgender rights, women’s rights, illegal immigrant rights, income inequality and free college. That’s what liberal politicians are spending taxpayer time and money on.”

Ben: “WTF? What about the economy? What about foreign invasion? What about the rights of citizens? What about the rights of the majority? What about the tax on tea? What is Washington doing about those issues?”

Stu: “Virtually nothing. Under the two terms of the current Democratic President, Barack Obama, Washington has done nothing to stimulate the weak economy, has failed to help create good jobs in the private sector, has failed to keep us safe at home and abroad, has failed to secure our borders, has divided the people, and has not done away with ANY taxes.”

Ben: “Pitiful. That’s just pitiful. That is not why we fought a war for freedom and independence against a tyrannical government. Sounds like the current American government - instead of being a protector and friend to we, the people - has become the enemy.

Stu: “It’s not all bad. Women got the right to vote. And blacks got their freedom when slavery was abolished.”

Ben: “They ended slavery? Really? When did that happen?”

Stu: “Slavery was officially ended more than 7 generations ago, in 1863, when Abe Lincoln was President.

Ben: "I heard that many black people in America today, however, act like they are still victims of slavery, like slavery was never abolished, even though they are today, in fact, by law, provided the same rights as everyone else, and with Equal Opportunity policies, maybe more."

Stu: "We’ve even had a black President. And a black Attorney General.”

Ben: “A black President huh? Amazing! But very American. America is a country where anything is possible. That's how we made it.

Ben: "As for women getting the right to vote, good for them. I always liked the ladies.”

Stu: “So I’ve heard."

"We also have a ton of debt in modern times. That’s from the government vastly overspending for the past 50 years, spending money we don’t have and creating a huge debt we can’t pay. Our national debt is currently around $20 trillion.”

Ben Franklin: “WHAT? That's sounds like a lot of debt. What’s a trillion? Why is the government spending money it doesn’t have? Taxpayer money. Especially if the government isn’t spending it to fix the most critical problems. That's terrible. And unacceptable. So why don’t the people revolt, vote the politicians out of office, abolish the government and create a government that works, a government of the people, by the people and for the people. Are American voters stupid?”

Stu: “Good question. Maybe the American voters ARE stupid.”

Ben: “Jeez, I’m kinda sorry I entered your dream. America sounds like a mess. Maybe you idiots should go back to being owned and controlled by England.”

Stu: “Thank you, Ben Franklin, for granting me this interview. You are a Founding Father of America and a great man in American history. Feel free to haunt the dreams of every American politician, and every liberal, and give them a piece of your mind.”
