right-wing wrong wing

Archie and Edith Bunker

Just to be fair, I also want to criticize the political and social beliefs of extreme right wingers in America, who hold the social values of 1950's America. Hey, idjiots, it's no longer the 1950's. The right-wing conservative wants to take us back to the "good old days", the good old days when abortion was illegal, neighborhoods were mostly segregated, there were no gay rights, there were few if any women's rights and all immigrants came here legally. And kids got spanked. Yes, back in the day, in America, white males ruled. Then, along came the 1960's and the Baby Boomers and everything changed. All traditional things were tossed in the trash. Everything that existed in the 1950's (and before) got thrown out and was replaced with if it feels good, do it and if it doesn't feel good, don't do it."

Fifty years later, America is deeply divided politically. This is causing a civil war, America's second. This civil war is not a war of weapons, it's a war of words, a war of beliefs. Conservative beliefs are at war with liberal beliefs, liberal beliefs are at war with the conservative beliefs, and Independents are the only voices of moderation. Neither the right-wing conservatives nor the left-wing liberals wants to give an inch. This has caused a huge and destructive rift in the fabric of society in America. The choices are clear: go back 50 years to white male supremacy or go forward into a leap-before you-look future full of lunacy and fiscal chaos. Neither extreme is attractive. Both extremes are wrong and unworkable. And stupid. Meanwhile, America is being torn apart and we, the people are forced to endure it.

Here is a voice of reason. Mine. We should not go back to the Dark Ages. We should also not go forward by leaping before we look. What we CAN do is compromise. According to my intelligence and experience and wisdom,

Abortion should be between a woman and her doctor.

Everyone should be equal - under the law.

Without undue government interference, citizens should be allowed to do whatever they want so long as they do not harm themselves or others. (by harm I do not mean wimpy imagined overly sensitive discomfort a la safe spaces)

America is a sovereign nation and, like every other nation, has a right - and a duty - to protect and manage its borders, and repel invaders and uninvited guests.

American politics should be responsive and accountable to we, the people - not to elite "we know best" politicians, bureaucrats and greedy special interests.

Common sense rules. Let's all try to get along and respect each other, we are all human. We are all stupid. Deal with it. C'mon, right-wing conservatives, don't be so stubborn on social issues, give a little!
